How to Satisfy the iWant - Budgeting Strategies
Not long ago budgeting for capital improvements to the typical corporate aircraft was somewhat straight forward. There usually was some type of mandate, domestic, or international that prompted the capital improvement. It used to be all you would have to do was solicit a few proposals and plug the number into the capital budget. Today, developing the capital budget is much murkier. The budget is driven more by the wants of the cabin than the operational requirements or mandates.
The leading want for the Corporate Flight Department seems to be Internet connectivity (which is the i in iWant). It is the first time in recent memory where a typical airliner has a more advanced cabin environment than most business jets. In the iPad age, connectivity is of the utmost importance. If your passengers haven’t asked for internet connectivity, they will. There are many ways to offer connectivity to your passengers, choosing the right solution for your flight department is paramount. Knowing the pros and cons of the available solutions will help you develop a solid budget to connect your iWant passengers.
When you entered into the Corporate Aviation field, you knew you would have to wear a lot of hats, who knew the IT hat would be the most important.
